Program description

In order to train or advise students and farmers on poultry husbandry one should have a good understanding of the primary production process. In this module the emphasis is put on the animal and how to deal with it in such a way that a good production is obtained. The focus is on medium-scale, semi-commercial farms with low technology input.

Target Audience
Extension officers, teachers and instructors in animal production and managers in the field of poultry  husbandry.

Objectives
As a result of the training the participant is
able to:
• Execute daily, weekly and periodical care for a poultry unit leading to an acceptable result;
• Explain how the different ‘production factors’ independently and in combination with each other affect production quantity and quality;
• Formulate an advice leading to a more efficient production;
• Accept that motivation and a positive attitude is necessary to achieve good results;
• Judge the husbandry systems at PTC+ for applicability at one’s own working place.
