Program description

Finger on the pulse: stay tuned to changes in the media. Track developments in the sector, explore its pervasive impact and clout, and launch a top-flight career in a professional field or research.

Explore the changes that the internationalisation of media and communications have wrought in our lives. How have cultural, economic and political developments contributed to these. What are the consequences? Get a fix on the pervasiveness of media such as papers, television, the Internet and video games. How have the various media sectors developed? How are they organised?

Erasmus is a highly rated university with a strong international outlook and top-drawer teaching staff, in a modern, cosmopolitan city. Grasp and respond to complex problems in media and society, and go on to a career in research or in any of a number of fields in the public or private sector such as management, marketing, public relations, journalism or consultancy.

Subjects
The programme is focused on key developments in the media world and their wider societal causes and consequences. Special attention is paid to the rise of the internet and other new media and the shifting relations between the global, the national and the local. Students will dive into the production, reception and content of various media as well as their social and cultural meanings and uses.

Objectives
Graduates have a firm grasp of, and can respond to complex problems and changes in the media sector, as well as to media-related issues in society at large.

Admission requirements

Previous education

University Bachelor's degree in the social sciences or the arts. Basic knowledge of media studies and social scientific research methods.

Language requirements

CAE: A1, CPE: B1, IELTS overall band: 7, TOEFL paper based: 600, TOEFL computer based: 250, TOEFL internet based: 100
