Program description

The Master in International Communication Management attracts students from across the globe who possess a broad spectrum of professional interests and experience. The program is designed to develop communication managers who can research, develop, implement and manage complex communication strategies on a global scale.

Organizations are becoming increasingly international, and have to communicate more and more beyond national borders. The Master of International Communication Management is a broad-based course, which trains you to become a communication specialist in an international environment. Our students and lecturers come from all over the world, and so you will learn to tackle communication from diverse cultural angles.


 

Who are we looking for?
Many of our students already work in areas such as corporate communication and public relations, while others come to us from related fields such as marketing, brand management, journalism, television, radio, and social media.  At the same time we also welcome professionals from diverse areas who seek a career change.

We seek professional men and women who we believe have what it takes to successfully complete the MICM and who will contribute to the richness of the classroom experience.  A minimum of two years of work experience is required. 

What will you learn?
A communication specialist should be well rounded. The Master of International Communication Management supports this notion. Among other things, you will learn about corporate branding, corporate social responsibility, media relations, social media, crisis management and the effects of communication. You will also learn about internal communication within international and multicultural organizations, and marketing products or services at an international level. At the conclusion of the program, you will be capable of advising on complex communication issues, and devising and developing appropriate communication. You will be able to work for governments, NGOs, businesses or on a self-employed basis.

Study Program
In the Master of International Communication Management, you learn more than just theory. From the very first day, you will put the knowledge that you have acquired into practice. The program explores international trends, cultural differences, ethics and personal skills such as leadership, project management and conflict management. After your course, you will be able to investigate, develop, implement and manage complex communication issues at an international level. The training is available for full-time or part-time study.


The Master of International Communication Management focuses on Corporate Communication, Internal Communication and Marketing Communication. The curriculum also includes modules like Communication Research, Culture & Communication and Communication Trends. In addition, you will be taught specific skills, consisting of several training modules on subjects including time management, writing and the media.

The forms of teaching are varied and diverse: trainings, workshops, case studies and lectures form part of the program. You will finish a module with a (reflection) report or an assignment. For several modules, including the thesis project, you will find yourself a suitable client organization and act as a communication consultant for that client.

For the part-time program, you will attend courses one day per week. In this program, you will study for approximately twenty hours per week, including the lessons. The course lasts for two years.
