Program description

The Master in European Law focuses on the creation and application of European laws in a variety of regions, and the relationship between European, international and national laws.

In the Master in European Law you focus on such issues as the status of European law, its content and the way in which it works with the Dutch legal system. Ever more frequently, social issues are impacted by international and European law and resolved through international organisations. Many Dutch businesses operate outside national borders. Beyond this the Netherlands is a member of such international organisations as the European Union and the United Nations.

This programme extensively examines not just European law, but the way in which it is interwoven with Dutch law. Graduates of this Master are prepared to take up legal and policy functions within European institutions, or in governmental or judicial organisations. This one year programme comprises such courses as 'European Public Law', 'European Migration Law', Constitutional Law of the European Union', and 'European/International Criminal Law'. It is possible to engage in an internship in the Netherlands or abroad. You complete your studies by writing a Master thesis based on independently determined research on a topic of your choice.
