Program description

The master's degree in Dutch Language and Culture is a continuation and extension of a bachelor's degree. The training centres on the Dutch language and culture as from the Middle Ages up to today. You analyse and interpret literary texts and study linguistic and literary developments in their cultural context. A text is directly related to the world in which it functions; the intended public, the tradition, the historical background and religious and philosophical ideas also determine its content and form. In this context a distinction is made between the tangible form (the book or manuscript) and the intangible form (the verse form, the poetic and rhetoric structure and the use of language).
